Flame back angel

hello,

I have a sixty gallon cube reef that has a small clown, a 2" yellow tang, cleaner shrimp and a black spiny urchin. I had a flame angel that died last month after being in the tank for a year. Can I add another dwarf angel (a flame back) to my tank even with an established yellow tang in it?

I am. My wife bought the fish and she is attached to it. My plan was to trade it in a few more months. I agree.

IMO there shouldn’t be any problems adding a flame back angel. They will stay low in the tank among the rocks until any aggression from the tang subsides. Make sure the rock work has plenty of escape holes for the angel to bolt to if needed.

The Flameback should be fine as long as there aren't smaller fish that will be picked on by it. A Clown should be able to hold it's own if the Flameback gets pushy.

You might want to look at getting a fish trap or an acclimation box. This would give the new fish a place to get used to the tank and it may help reduce the aggression from the yellow tang. It may be needed to get the yellow out at some point.

I have a yellow in my system and added a naso a while back that was 2x its size. That darn yellow was nuts.... I almost had to get out a spear gun to take it out. Even today... the yellow is more aggressive towards the Naso and a Rabbit which are easily 2x its size.

Sorry...a little off topic but why do you think you lost your flame angel after a year?

I went to Bali for six weeks and left tank maintenance to a friend who was house sitting. He never had a fish tank and the angel died a day after his first water change he did. I am not sure what happened though.

Oh I gotcha. That's the hard part of leaving our tanks. Sorry about your loss though.... beautiful fish!
