What do you think? He's still on coppersafe in QT.

Looks like a little fin rot. I would start dosing an antibiotic (Kanaplex or Furan-2) into the QT. Increase gas exchange to compensate for added O2 depletion.

Would copper do that to the fish? Can I add the antibiotics in with the copper ?

Gas exchange? I have a 50 gallon HOB filter on there. Is that enough?

I would add an airstone or point a small powerhead towards the surface of the water to draw in more oxygen.

so I put in the second treatment for tail rot. I can only do the maximum of 3. How will I know it's been effective? I don't think his tail will grow back in a few days.

I'm only doing a water change in my QT about every two weeks because the ammonia alert looks good. Should I being doing them more frequently?

What kind of fish? What are you treating with? Is the fish in isolation in a hospital tank? Can you post a photo of the affected fish?

I'm guessing what would be most effective is kanaplex, metroplex, and furan 2 dosed together in a HT. It would help us immensely if you answered the questions above and provided photos of the affected animal. :)

Sorry I already posted on anorther thread. I'm using kanaplex in a QT running copper. It's a flame hawk.

Okay. I would add metroplex and furan 2. Can you link to the other thread?

Why would I add anything else right now? I just want to know how long before I know it's working or not?

So that you can be sure you have a wider range of antibiotics thus increasing your chances of success. It can take 10+ days before you see marginal improvements. In the short-run, if it doesn't get any worse you're moving in the right direction!

You should run kanaplex for 10 days to be safe. The package states you can run two courses back to back (which would be 6 doses, 12 days) for severe infections. Also in QT I would probably try to at least do a small weekly change to suck out waste.

Adding the other two helps to cover a broader spectrum of bacteria. It's good advice if you aren't seeing much improvement.

Thanks I'll order up some more meds. Can I dose all of those with the copper I'm running?
