I want to get a fleece roller for my R60. Has anyone tried the new Innovative Marine Automated Fleece Roller? Anyone using a brand or model that fits and performs well?

Thank you!

I have not tried either, but wanted to give this a bump to hopefully get some help here.

Good luck!

UNS Brandon and Parker said that the Reef Factory Smart Roller will fit. But I saw the new Innovative Marine that just came out.
We both use the R60 roller mat and like it; the colors also work well in the sump. We haven't tested the new innovative marine roller yet.

I got the IM Pro 2 Fleece Roller. It doesn't fit as is for several reasons. The intake port faces the opposite side. It is also too short. I went ahead and ordered the Reef Factory that Brandon and Parker use. I hope we will come across more fleece roller options for this fantastic system in the future.

I installed the Reef Factory Smart Roller. It is not optimal for the R60.

1. The rails that hold up the filter sock tray have to be cut out with a razor so that the fleece roller will fit.

2. The roller that holds the unused fleece roller does not fit in the stand as it. It is too low and thick. I had to leave door off and put it on ATO bucket until I make a holder for it in the stand. I anticipate attaching it to bottom of tank like a toilet paper roll holder. If you look at the second pic you can see slots in the fleece roller where the unused roll should sit. It is clearly too low since it is inside the sump.

3. The intake for the fleece roller is lower than the output for the UNS adapter. The water drains mainly into the sump instead of the fleece roller. It is also VERY noisy. I need to attach a hose or something so that all the water drains into the fleece roller input instead of the sump. I think this will also make it quieter.

I hope UNS develops their own fleece rollers that just automatically fit. Or keep testing other brands for one that will fit without so much modification. Most people would be very frustrated trying to make the Reef Factory Smart Roller work.

Also, Reef Factory went out of business. I bought the Smart Roller because it was significantly discounted on BRS. But I am concerned about parts.

I found a pic of Parker's setup. So I adjusted mine. I'm not sure how it's going to work because there is an optimal water line mark on both sides of the fleece roller. The sump water level is a good 4 inches lower than where the fleece roller indicates it should be.

The good news is that the unused fleece roll now fits in the unit and I can shut the stand door.

The output for the UNS adapter also drains directly into the input for the fleece roller. It is still too loud however.

Again, my great hope is that UNS will design their own fleece roller.

Part of the reason I got UNS is because everything works so well and is super high quality. It's basically plug n play. I'd like that convenience to include the Fleece Roller.

Mine has been working great, despite running the fleece roller significantly higher than the suggested water line. Did raising the roller mat to sit onto the railings help with the noise? I added some filter floss inside the tray underneath the main body, and that has helped the trickling noise a bit.

We do have a roller mat project in the works, but we still don't have a time frame for release.

Mine doesn't seem to be running great at this height. The fleece is too clean.

So I used raised the water level in the Intake chamber and the skimmer chamber. Pic attached. I LOVE the UNS sump design that allows me to adjust water level.

I raised my protein skimmer to accommodate higher water level by putting it on media blocks.

Still not showing much on fleece.

So Im going to lower fleece roller to proper water level. Make a holder for the unused fleece roll. I think its more important for water level to be correct than for the unused roll to fit on fleece roller.

The noise is better at this height but still too loud. I will work on noise issue after I get it running properly.

I have lowered the fleece roller so the water level is where it should be. I will update with results. Hopefully, fleece roller is more effective now.

Because the unused fleece roll will no longer fit I made a holder that is attached to the bottom of tank with velcro. Pics attached.

Also because output from UNS adaptor is 6th high I made an extension for fleece roller intake. This greatly reduces noise. Pics attached.

It is working better now. You can see how much dirtier the fleece is since I lowered the fleece roller.

Yes. I am set at 3cm for one shift length.

Looking forward to a UNS fleece roller.

The reef factory design just needs to be modified to fit a UNS sump. It would also help to redesign the UNS adaptor by allowing it to be lengthened. However I do notice more noise issues if I have too much flow going through it. The long drop gets very noisy when too much water is moving through it.
