Floating Canopy Question

I’m going to start building a floating canopy for my tank. I’m starting with a 2x4 frame that will be anchored to the studs behind the tank, but I’m not sure which way to build off the anchored piece.

Should the arms be attached to

(A) ends of the anchored piece

Or

(B) come off the face

I’m going to be using pocket screws and glue to attach to the anchored piece.

I hinged mine off the anchor board. And I made a complete frame to attach to the anchor board. Then I used chains to connect the furthest part of the canopy to a higher spot on the wall. The hinges are nice because I can raise it out of the way if needed. Good luck

Pocket screws are not suitable in this application 2x4. You'll need to plan to predrill with 3.5" minimum screws. I go with Spax brand If I have a choice. Kreg jig and pocket holes are not suitable here.

Of the two, A is most correct. This allows you to inset your rear anchor board.

To clarify I’m using 1/4”x4” lag screws to attach the anchor board to the studs. Are you saying pocket screws are not suitable to attach the arms coming off the board anchored to the wall?

I just hung from the ceiling with eye bolts and steel cable.

Use T-Slot you will be much happier in the end.

If you think that is more expensive, look up how much polyeurathane costs. Over my many years this hobby this is the only thing that I have found that will stand up to wood.

Yes I am. If it's a floating canopy.

If the blue marks are your legs into the studs, The green also need to be structural.

That is what I have now. I want to get rid of the wires coming down and also help with light spill
