I thought I would share my process on building my Floating reef structure.

items needed
30m of 21.5mm pvc pipe
10mm perspex
a reel of glassfibre tape
loads of resin and hardener
different grades of coral sand
and aggcrate

So I started with the base 2x 10mm perspex pieces 150mm x 300mm glued together with tensol 70 and then 20x 22mm holes drilled into it.

Then I cut the 3m lengths of pvc pipe down to 1.5m lengths and then individually heat them up with a hot air gun and shape them.
20 pieces later

Once this is done I then wrapped them in glassfibre tape and applied the resin

After a few coats of this another coat of resin is added and the sand sprinkled on top (this is done over a few days)

Now you'll be thinking but how does this support itself with out falling over? the answer is a length of perspex (well a few lengths glued together with tensol 70 to make a thickness of 40mm)
10mm x 50mm x 1m glued to the base this is hidden by the sand.

I also wanted something to cover the weir wall where this sits next too Weir wall 30in x 21in
So Eggcrate was used with glassfibre

any questions comments welcome

Same here. I am considering building a false wall for my next box of ocean and I have also been thinking of using fiberglass build it instead of the more common pond foam.
