I am on vacation on the gulf side of southern Florida. I’d like to take a pale of sand/mud/broken shells ETC home to throw in my display/refugium for bio diversity. I believe in the Paul B style of throw a lot of biodiversity in tank and let it ride.

What I’d like to know is will it survive the ride back? And what would be best to grab?

The ride will be 3 days drive and I can easily keep it on ice if need be.

Please let me know your thoughts on if the bio would die on the ride/if I should chill it. And what I should grab? Sand, mud, crushed shells under the sand??

Thank you!

Most or the microorganisms will probably die, unless it was super oxygenated. A battery operated air pump with the air stone buried in the bottom may work. The Gulf just experienced and early season Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) or "red tide" I would be worried about introducing some nasties or toxins into my aquarium.

Nothing from the ocean should go in your aquarium!!

🤪

Joking…it should be fine and add some diversity. No sand from the beach however that is illegal. You should try a mangrove propagules, legal to take.

I dont see why this would be an issue, I mean they put rocks in that area and sell them. Maybe some issue with possible critters or contamination from "industrial run off/fertilizers, so on". Make sure its legal to collect in the area . Keep it with in temp while shipping just like they would for anything else live and shipped.
