Florida senate votes against protecting reefs

The city of key west florida was months away from enacting a law banning certain types of sunscreen that contain chemicals know to cause damage to coral reefs. Numerous sea side communities and countries around the world already have similar bans in place.
A "wonderful" Senator, Rob Bradley, sponsored a bill that blocked key west, and any other Florida city, from enacting such a law. He said the ban would discourage people from using sunscreen which would put their health a risk. This legislation passed on Wed. Clearly there are plenty of reef safe sunscreens that would be available.
Hopefully Gov Ron DeSantis will veto this bill.
I'm hoping we can flood the Gov with e-mails telling him the reefs are critical to south Florida's economies and they need all the protection they can get.
We can also tell Sen Bradley what an Idiot he is.

This is what we’re talking about. Thanks to the OP for bringing this to our attention. It’s a discussion here in Lake Tahoe and it’s eco system. It’s not just an ocean and reef issue. Science is on the scene.;)

That sounds delicious. Ran out of beer and did a little mixer of mostly 7-up and oj a few nights ago. Now I’m out of soda. I usually just drink water, coffee, beer, oj, and Odwalla green juice. I bought a bottle of vodka about 6 mos ago that I can’t put a dent in. I’m not a big liquor guy. Started getting heart burn about 5 years ago (~37) really wrecks cocktails for me.

I usually stick to beer, as I’ve gotten older the hard stuff got too easy to drink once I found out how to make it taste good ;). Tbh your liquid diet sounds almost identical to mine...except what is this Odwalla green juice?!

It’s great. It’s living a lie of all sorts of great stuff for you accompanied by a bunch of sugar. It’s like a smoothie and It’s probably better than soda, but no promises. I’ve been drinking it for years. Lots of folks just use the generic term green juice, but Odwalla is generally a bit thicker as far as I’ve seen. It’s acted as my complete breakfast along side a cup of coffe for a long time.

Also got to add that I know all about delicious cocktails. I hear ya. It’s just too dang easy to get out of control when you know how to mix it up right. Know when to say when.;)

Here is the thing.. in this day and age I am quite leary of people that employ the "but what about defense"

Hey sunscreen has been scientifically shown to damage reefs. Its stupid to ban sunscreen..what about agricultural run off and sewage..those are the real problems.

Here is the thing people.. if there is an easy solution to a problem, maybe but your little agenda aside and just accept that things are not the same as they were 20 years ago.

My city banned plastic bags...then they passed a law that you have to ask for plastic straws or utensils at drive through windows, they cant just include them by law. You would think they were telling people they couldn't drive or watch TV anymore.
All the right wing radio shows... banning straws does nothing..now the snowflakes want me to eat with my hands.

So I googled plastic straws.. we throw a 500 million plastic a day. 500 million straws. We use something for 30 minutes and it lasts 200 years. I had no idea.

So I bought a box of paper straws on amazon and keep them in the car. Yeah, they get soggy after about 15 minutes.

It is just soo aggravating, it's an easy solution.. ban sunscreens that poison the water. There are other sunscreens. Wear a god dang long sleeve shirt if your concerned about skin cancer.

I like to buy the large bottles. It’s pretty spendy stuff, and I prefer to drink less than the small bottles have. I’ll drink the whole small bottle because it’s with me and it’s weird when it gets warm so I drink it quick. Couple cups of coffee followed by about 8oz of green juice is pretty good start to the day. If you have a perfectly soft boiled egg to go along with it, you can do anything. Except flying. You can’t do that without some mechanical assistance.
