Florida vs. Tonga Fighting Conch

I added a Tonga Fighting Conch to help stir up the sandbed and keep algae off of it. But this guy works so slowly and never buries himself. He just cruises around and slowly picks one piece of sand up at a time. My sand bed is super green.

I saw a Florida Fighting Conch on ReefCleaners, and they say these guys need a ton of space (1 per 40 gallons). Weird, because I feel like I need about 6 more tonga fighting conches to make any dent in this algae on the sand bed.

I have a Red Sea Reefer 170.

So just wondering, are the florida ones much better and will stir the sandbed?

My Tonga just sticks his nose in the sand and occasionally buries himself a little, definitely not as good as the Straberry Conch I used to have.

My tonga has never been under the sand. So weird. He's pretty awesome though. A trochus climbed on his back and he started kicking it with his foot until it flew off. Amazing.

I would be careful, especially I you have an anemone. I had a fighting conch flip itself onto my anemone and sliced the anemone killing the nem and the conch. Unfortunately, I watched it happen and thought- hey maybe they’ll both survive which lead to a tank crash:(
