Thanks for the info no offense but I'm asking for flow advise.
What kind of floor are you looking for simulated waves simulated currents tidal pool don't be afraid to ask don't hate hater hate the game and it surprised to see people so ignorant they don't even know what an isolation tank is I'll see you in two years when you have a complete failure because you let a diseased peace in your aquarium without isolating it for 10 days I have no sympathy 4 ignorant people that don't listen they think they know what they're doing and they don't I've done this for 17 years I've seen it I've done it I've been a part of it corals are in my blood sorry about that I will leave now and you guys can make fun of somebody who knows much more then you'll ever think so I doubt none of you guys are selling anything back to your Coral store I am and making lots of money

What are you trying to simulate with your flowing that will lead me to a recommendation for you if you want waves surface display tsion or turn to move over your corals that's a different then making ways so if you can tell me what you want to accomplish with the flow I can probably work that out I see you have a brain box that you can hook up pumps and power heads to with lighting's is this correct

What kind of flow advice you give no idea of what you want it to flow over around under side to side up and down there's a lot of ways to move different types of water at different flow rates that's why I have six powerheads so if you can tell me what you mean by Flo maybe I can help you

If you would like to participate in helping our friend out there are additional posts previous to this that covers the question posed by the reefer, his projected setup, size, pump plans, and what he would like to keep, as well as input from other reefers on the topic.

I have 150 gallon LPS and now trying SPS I started back around 2000 repainting and it's come quite away since then a lot of the coral I have you can no longer purchase in stores they are now a protected species but I aquaculture Bud split to reproduce these corals to sell them back to my Coral dealer and people he refers to me that want access to these corals before anyone gets the corporal's I go and inspect the tank the filters the lights everything and if I don't think he can make it grow I will not sell it to him I'd rather see you dead in my own tank so many people combine so many different corals that run such different lighting and water flow movements it's sad to see nobody tells them to make a tank from a certain part of the global region most of mine comes from Fiji they all have the same light timing water movement lighting environment and any other way to duplicate the natural environment of the corals I pick I've been doing this since 2000 mm and had great successes I hope the pet store I get my Coral from reproduce their corals and they don't use isolation tanks and no one on this site seems to know what an isolation tank is for that one piece you move in that has that disease now it's in your whole tank because you couldn't leave it in an isolation tank for 10 days to see what it has or has not on it number one rule isolate all new inhabitants minimum 10 days dsps are a lot different than LPS back on a new learning curve learn to love new things love to try out new things and always looking for that special piece of coral everywhere in Michigan I go I'm going to Florida in a couple weeks I'm going to the aquaculture places down there to see it happening on a larger scale than mine I cannot wait hopefully I can talk him into a job ideal but people here don't want to listen to what I have to say does not hurt me I have not had a distinct failure in 17 years no disease it's devastated everything I see a lot of people letting there nitrates get up to 5 that's too high I run zero nitrates and 08 phosphates 8.4 two 400w metal halide lights 6 Protech power heads and I tried to give people advice and they don't want to listen to it this little kid he does water changes every other month and he thinks it's okay he's wondering why he's having problems with his corals the trace elements are not being replaced I told them that he said I'm clueless whatever dude

Yea, MP40s should do it.

Reef2reef is a very knowledge environment and honestly with no offense I don't see the need to throw all ur knowledge or ur sales resume or how good u are men buying corals, so please @TimothyButler if ur idea is to help and support other reefers please don't take the whole thread like yours, if I don't immediately answer by no means is rude is just that I a have a job, thanks to all for the info. Mr.Butler congrats on your 17 years of experience and your six powerbeads!!!

The way I designed the flow in my new setup is tailed to all SPS, therefore goal was to avoid dead spots and have random flow. Based on my aquascape I decided to run 1 mp40 slightly lower towards the front going across the reef. The second MP40 is on the right side closer to the top and more towards the back. Originally, I had one MP 40 on the side and 1 on the back - However, I did not like the flow. Right now I have them anti-sync alternating every few hours from nutrient export, Reef crest, lagoon, and tidal swell.

Below are some pictures on how i have my pumps set up... I also have a 1" seaswirl fed by M1 return pump which really helps with deadspots behind the rockwork. My tank is 2 months old and I've never had a tank with such clean rock after 2 months. The Refugium and flow are definitely doing their job

I had a 190g SPS tank that did really well, a big part of the success I had was from flow. I had a barracuda for return and set up 2 tunze 6100 and 6200 onto wavy seas mounted on the overflow wall, the water was really moving, was random, and the sps loved it. You also will see great growth if you feed the coral. There are pics of my tank at 5 months and again around the 4 year mark you can see if you google
my user name and sps tank and tank at 5 months, good luck

I'm no SPS expert or addict, but I'm running a xf150 on a 40B. Using the periodic mode with 15 sec duration. The flow is at 30%. I originally had the gyre pointed across the top of the water, but that was too much direct flow for my SPS. I tilted the outlets up and directed them towards the surface. This seems to make the SPS I have happier with nice polyp extension. I have LPS in my tank and they like the flow as well.

For reference, I run my SPS grow out tanks (no display currently) which are 40B with two XF150 gyres full blast. Polyp extension is awesome. MP's are awesome, used to use them, now going all gyre's. Using cheap jaebo gyres on non-sps tanks to see how they hold up. Less crucial for me personally.

Personally, I think it has more to do with coral health more than anything else, and new evidence backs up the practice of using really high random flow. Just make sure they're mounted well!!!

IMO, let's see what others say. @Battlecorals do you blast your corals?
How do you keep the frags in the rack??!
How do you keep the rack from blowing around, for that matter?

They seem to be ok, some wobble once in awhile. Mounting on tiles from now on anyway. The only pieces I've had some minor issues with is larger digi/pocci colonies and some monti caps that were unmounted. None of the frags are coming off the egg crate otherwise. my gyres are maybe 10-15 degrees off horizontal in the upwards direction.
