I'm not a newbie but I have always struggled with getting the right amount/direction of flow to keep all inhabitants happy. My current struggle is with the 72 gallon bowfront. I have a gyre on the left side at the top, and I have a Vortech on the lower half mounted on the center of the back glass. That combo is doing OK, but there is still detritus building up on the left and right edges of the tank. I have a shedful of powerheads and could add more but do I need 3 in a 72 gallon? And if so, where do I put it? Or do I need to add two more small ones: one in each bottom corner?

Not bare bottom, sand bed but not a deep one. If it were bare bottom I would just let the powerheads blast away. So if I add more, I guess I need to add two more: one in each corner? Or do you have suggestions on where to place the gyre and the Vortech that will help with the corners. If I lower the Vortech, the sand in the middle of the tank gets blown away but it still doesn't move the detritus that gathers in the corners.
