Flow meter Rotameter

Has anyone implanted a flow meter like these?

I’m getting ready to setup a bigger tank and would like to use a manifold. I figured this would be good inexpensive way to monitor flow into the display and through each reactor without breaking the bank.

They are tall, so that may be the only bit of trouble I run into. But wanted others opinions. I’m also not positive if they’re completely free of metal.

There's definitely metal in it, I can see it in the picture. The red thing slides up and down on a metal rod. Whether or not it's something safe for a saltwater aquarium, I have no idea.

I have access to 316 stainless at work and could replace it. I wonder if that would suffice

The metal would be one concern. Second, just ensure it's rated for the correct flowrate. The one pictured maxes out at 600L/h which works out to just above 150 G/h.

I believe they add a little bit of resistance but the correct one for your flowratw should be ok.

Has way wider range and no metals.

I saw different operating ranges as well. Off the top of my head I remember 25-250, 100-1000

Hydros and Neptune both mark great flow sensors IMM designed for the purpose. But expensive.

I simply adjust return flow to the maximum my overflows can take, and still be silent. Then it is what it is. No reason for me to know what the speed is.

I add variable and random speeds through gyres for display movement.
