Hey everyone,

Quick question. I have a 1/2” return lin with hard pvc and was wondering if I should use a 1” flow sensor or a 1/2” flow sensor from Neptune? Also, what fittings would I get in addition to make the connection from 1/2”?

if your line is 1/2", then 1/2 flow, right?
Can't tell what fittings

Personally. I always try to upsize the flow sensor. 1/2” is quite restrictive to flow and comes with adapters for 1/2” slip.

But it's designed for 1/2 flow, restrictive is not relevant.

That’s what I’m thinking too. From what I read, 1” is easier to work with too because of the true unions it has.

I use 1” sensors on most of my 1/2” and all 3/4” lines and the 2” on anything larger. You can add unions to the 1/2” sensors, just keep in mind they’re BSP threads not NPT. I do actually use the 1/2” sensors on my manifold pump to monitor flow through various reactors, but I don’t need that much flow so friction back pressure is not a big deal.

They’re designed with 1/2”, not necessarily for LOL .... and of course resistance is important, particularly if your pump doesn’t handle back pressure well.

It all depends on how much flow u are running through it. The 1" is good for 150 gph to i think 1500 gph. Anything under that you have to use the 1/2".
