Are you running a skimmer? I also find corals more sensitive to low oxygen than fish, but take that with a grain of salt, I can rarely keep a tang alive for more than a month.

I have however use fluconazole on 3 or 4 different systems with no ill effect on any of the desirable life forms. However, given the algae may be dying, your oxygen levels could drop (fewer plants = less oxygen). Which goes back to my skimmer point, if you are running a skimmer that should be mixing enough oxygen into the water column.

Including adding a sock, I would run carbon as well as a UV filter (I like my little Green Killing Machine, dirt cheap, very effective) to get the water cleared up. As for the the fish, hopefully someone else chimes in!
