Ok so the saga continues unfortunately


The first day or two after I returned it to the display tank all normal and then it started doing the same thing again. I was going out of town for10days and didn't want to leave it like that. So moved it to another established SW tank without corals but with a pair of clowns and bangais. It was a little skittish but was starting to be brave and exploring the tank andeating.

When I came back, it was eating fine and really moving around in the tank. I decided ok now that I'm home, we will introduce the tang back to the main display. I moved around the rockscape to maybe rearrange if there was any territorial issues. Though I have never seen any. Everything going well for 24hrs. eating exploring, etc and then same thing. Except not breathing as fast this time. Still shaking its head once in a while. No scratching or flickering. All other fish behaving normal.

What gives?

What is in the display tank that is making it do this esp the head shaking part? I tried setting up a camera to see if any fish was bullying it but none seen. They are all pretty docile.

I ran carbon in the water with no change.

I stumped - I read back through this post and it seems that twice the fish was moved out of the DT and both times it improved. That indicates that there could be some stressor in the main tank. What is the full fish list for that tank?

There is a mandarin dragonet, a pair of very docile clowns, a pair of bangai cardinals, royal gramma and yellow watchman goby. The other tank had a pair of more aggressive clowns, a pair of bangais and it was fine.

The only thing that I can’t place is if stressor why is it doing the head shaking thing ?

The only thing that I can’t place is if stressor why is it doing the head shaking thing ?

The head shaking can be a sign of gill disease. I’m just struggling to figure out why it improves when you move it out of that tank……

Yes, the head shaking only happens in the main display tank. Not sure what to do at this point should I treat the main tank with one more round of PraziPro? Or should I put it back in the other tank and just keep it there though that’s a much smaller tank so it can’t stay there long-term

I would treat one more round of Prazipro, as that can’t hurt.

Ok thank you. Just took out the carbon, turned off the skimmer, added the aeration and dosed one more dose of Prazi. Will continue to update. Thank you all

I like to continue to run skimmers, just don’t collect the skimmate…..
