Hey all,

I have a 55 Gallon saltwater tank and I've been running it about three months. My LFS guy told me he doesn't change the pads on his cannister and only changes the carbon media. I've read other people say that you should change everything every two weeks. I've been doing the latter. What's the general opinion on this site about that. Is my LFS full of it?

Canister filter can hold a lot of detritus on their filter pads and that can rise your nitrates . I would do at least a once a week clean up to keep the detritus to the minimum.
