Hey guys. I have a Fluval Evo 13.5. I also have a AI Nero 5 power head in it. Trying to figure out the best location for the power head. I've had it under my return nozzles, and I currently have it on the opposite side of the tank. I currently have some gsp growing like crazy, and a zoa doing pretty well. I had a hammer that did really good for while but has been struggling following a vermetid snail that grew on its skeleton and took me some time to catch it due to not knowing what it was. Ill post pics when I get home to show rock landscape.

Depends on the rock structure. But for me to get even flow. I would center it in the middle on the AIO chamber side.
Then for the return nozzle. I would aim those up more to get surface agitation.

My rocks are in the center of the tank. Im going to post an old pic but the rock structure is still the same

They are growing but ive lost more than I've kept. And never been sure if my flow has ever been right

Hey I hope all is going well with your tank. In my evo13.5 I had a jebao similar to your nero and I kept it opposite wall of the return and had it aim towards the surface and mounted about 3/4 way up from bottom. Over time the power head slowed down and there wasn’t much flow so I bought a hygger gyre and I love it so far. I also added a cheap suction cup powerhead to the same wall to push water up from the bottom. After I replaced the power head with the gyre my tank is much happier. I used to have a ton of soft coral filling the tank and it was the only viable option for flow.

Hi there! Hope you figured out your flow! If not, I have the same tank and the same pump. My Nero 3 is 2-3 inches from the top on the glass side, 60-75% ish of the way towards the side the overflow is on, pushing everything on the top half of that side glass side towards the overflow and across the surface. One return pumps downward towards the back glass, pushing freshly filtered water below the main Nero current towards the bottom of Nero, and the other pumps across the top on the front. I use random mode with the highest variance, may or may not change but things seem fine. Ranges between 1% and 30-35%. At night the top end goes down to 20-25%. I use oolite sand, and it doesn't stir it up at all since it's mounted so close to the surface.
Since your rock scape is less horizontal than mine and you have a more exposed sand bed with a much bigger cave (it's the same idea, built up shorter with a front facing rock and a cave underneath), you'll definitely want less flow than me regardless of where you put it. I think the addition of a few pounds of rock strategically placed in there could help break up some flow too if you're having problems making lower flow areas.

Do you have a pic of your tank and nero for reference? Mine is currently set up that way and just curious how your whole tank is set up.
