Food for Thought: Sump Without Return Bulkhead Bracket

Hello,

I have a Bashsea pro series sump, and for those that have used bashsea sumps, know that the return chamber doesn’t have bulkheads so you typically have to just run your return plumbing all the way up.

Has anyone ever thought about coming up with a bracket to attach on these types of sumps without bulkheads to add a bulkhead?

If so, I would really be interested in seeing.

I have the same sump. I hated removing all that sticky paper! And instantly regretted not having lids and bulkheads like you say. It forced me into mounting all the plumbing in the top of the stand vs right above the sump. I suppose all you would need to do is with plastic bolts, bolt a piece of acrylic down over the return section, cut holes in it and add bulkhead fittings. Right?

Will probably go with a Geo’s Reef sump for any future builds.

Yeah, I think that would be the best option. I bought it to fit my Reefmat 1200, and it doesn’t even fit…

Nice looking sump but I hesitate to venture any opinions because I've never seen the sump firsthand and I cant zoom the image too much without pixelation.

Maybe I'm ignorant to what you're trying todo but it seems like there are bulkheads above the filter socks holding pipes even. are those replaceable?

Those are bulkheads for the drain, but these sumps don't come with bulkheads for returns. :)

RE: return chamber... I dun read too good...

You could glue acrylic to the underside of the lip that holds a bulkhead or put some holes and tap for nylon bolts to hold acrylic to hold a bulkhead I suppose. but that the best I have.

Sorry, why would you want or need a bulkhead for the return? Just connect to the pump directly and add a gate valve

If its what I think you want, I'd rather cut it out of acrylic. I leave tomorrow on a vacation till the 6th but can get on it after that. I even have a bunch of nylon nuts from my kids KiwiCo crates to use to secure it.
Want to follow up when I get back on the 6th? I'll provide renderings of intent so we can agree on the design.

may try to get it to wedge in corner with sandwich so no screws/holes/permanent modifications to the sump but will need pretty good measurements todo it.

I mean I’m kind of old a not as familiar with a lot of the new sump trends but what would be the benefit if plumbing a return line a few inches up to a bulkhead rather than up and out?

hehe; I won a Reefmat here on R2R and I exchanged if for the ReefWave45 instead because my sump is so small.
