Welcome! Gorgeous tank and corals! WOW!I just realized that after some time of using R2R that I never actually introduced myself or my tank I just started posting about things I wanted to know and had to sell . I guess it's finally time to get that done.
I started out back in 2017 with a 12 JBJ Cube but before I even filled it up I switched to a used 32 JBJ. It was a simple tank, pair of clowns, a diamond goby, royal gramma and a mandarin. There was some coral but because I was using the standard light that came with the JBJ it bleached out most of the coral I had. I got a bit excited that I added a yellow tang and a blue tang which both unfortunately died. The mandarin also died because I was unaware of the specialized diet and I was pretty bummed out about that but I was slowly learning about what to do in this hobby.
Not too long later I switched to a 55 long tank that was maybe a foot wide and I thought it would be a good tank but nope it was way too narrow and I had a hard time with the rocks. With this tank I got some 'netter' lights the Hipargero Aqua Knight lights which to be fair aren't bad for the price. I got a Reef Octopus skimmer and used real coral that was dried up in the tank. I was pretty excited but I kept facing problem after problem with that tank. I ended up getting so much algae and corals dying, but I was still trying to learn. I hired this guy who was supposed to help me out with cleaning the tank but instead he was no help at all. Charged me $300 for 2 services a month for 3 months but he only did 6 out of the 9 and played dumb when I confronted him. I had a small blue tang in here with the clowns from my previous tank, the diamond goby, 2x firefish, and 2x bangai cardinals.
After a couple of months or that tank I decided to switch from glass to acrylic and got an 80 g tank with sump, and stand for $60 and couldn't pass that up. The tank was 4 ft long, 16 inches wide and wasn't that badly scratched up. This was the tank that almost drove me out of the hobby, the problems I faced with this tank made me want to stop all together. I moved over all the fish from before and added a Yellow Eye Kole Tang from Petco (worst mistake ever). I didn't notice it but it came with Velvet plus my skimmer stopped working and was pushing dirty water out and the wave make stopped working lowering oxygen in the tank. Long story short the Yellow Eye gave everyone Velvet and I lost everything. I was so close to giving up but I decided to rebuild from that and added a foxface, flame angel, clowns, and firefish. Eventually I sold the firefish as they liked to jump and the flame since it became aggressive, the clowns also went as well.
Finally after problem after problem I arrived at my current tank a 100 gallon tank that has 3 AI 16HDs, bubble magnus skimmer, Hydor pump, custom made stand, and more corals than I ever thought I would own. In this tank I have the following fish:
Foxface 4 inches (bought at 1 1/2)
Blue Tang 3 inches (bought at 1 inch)
Midnight and Strom clown
African Midas Blenny
Yellow Corris Wrasse
Target Dragonet
Pistol and Hi Fin goby
Watchman
2x Firefish
Pajama cardinal
One Spot Blenny
Citron Goby
My tank is mostly softies, LPS, meat coral and generally things that don't require too much light. I don't really like SPS that much but do have a couple pieces here and there. My tank is high nutrient based so they probably won't do well in it. My favorite coral are my Clove Polyps which I have about 7 different colors and hammers, especially walls.
My most notable pieces I have had in this tank area two different Aussie Gold colonies with a total of 14 heads that lived with me for 1 and 1 and a half years before I sold them. 3 Headed Joker Torch, the orange hammer with 3 heads, metallic pink/red wall hammer, the black widow anemone, and my two meat corals that I absolutely love to feed.
My next tank will be a custome made 6 foot 150 drop down peninsula tank that I'm currently working on getting done. I've had luck with meeting great people and becoming friends with the owner of a store who has always given me great prices and who is building the tank for me for less than I would pay if I got it online. I earned my AA and my BA during my reefing journey. I have had hard times but also rewarding one's as well. I hope to be able to continue and improve as I go along. I attached photos from the very first tank to my current one. Hope everyone is staying safe.
