Foul smelling gunk floating in sump

Could someone advise what that is. It smells absolutely foul! It looks like some kind of algae/cyano maybe but sure doesn't smell like it. It smells rotten! View attachment 3974209

When rescuing a Cynobacteria infested tank, there were blobs of black stuff floating about when I added robust circulation. I scooped the stuff out with a net. There was a slight hydrogen sulfide smell: aka “rotten egg”.

Agreed, it's likely dying/decayed algae and bacteria.

Also agree, unless the fish went to town on Taco Bell the night before.
Looks like cyano, algae and detritus. Scoop it out with a net.

Yeah I'm thinking I agree. Just never smelt anything like it haha. Really pungent smell of i suppose sewer

Definitely try to stop those bubbles in the sump . It's acting like a skimmer. Do you have an air stone in the sump?

Yeah your right, I'm not sure why they are there to be honest! No air stone in there. Not even a skimmer or anything churning water as I have another sump aswell which has the skimmer in.
