Is it possible to frag a toadstool? I have a big(4-5inchs at night, 6+ during day) pink toadstool and was hoping I could use it as future trade material. Also would like some info on fragging in general, for polyps like buttons and such. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Oh yeah they are really easy. I cut mine in half with a razor blade. If its really large you can snip a part off with scissors.

Polyps and things like that will have a mat that you will want to slice with a razor blade. Then just peel the polyp(s) off of the rock or plug that their on.

absolutely, my brother in law had a huge one.. just shaved it down with a razor, let the cut frags heal and bam 10 new toadstools.. to get them to attatch you stick a toothpick in them from the top into the live rock they take hold in a few days and start growing stalks on their own.. really awesome and hardy frags good luck

At least it's how I do it. Just be careful when pulling the polyps off so you don't tear them.

Toadstools are easy. I would suggest holding a bucket of water when you do a water change and do the fragging in the bucket. Toadstools can put out some stuff that could effect other corals.

With a sharp pair of sissors, start cutting up the toadstool into whatever size you wish. I usually do this when my toadstool is pretty big, so my pieces tend to be big….say 1 ½ inches or more. Put all the cut up pieces into the bucket….and the remaining “mother” as well.

I use the toothpick method. Pierce a frag of toadstool with a toothpick. Gentle tie down the frag to a frag plug or small piece of rock….I actually use dental floss….and loop both sides of the toothpick and pass it under the plug/rock. It usually takes about a week….I usually let it go longer….for the frag to attach to the plug/rock. Cut off the string and remove the toothpick. I don’t use rubberbands because they exert too much force on the toothpick, cutting the toadstool.

Good luck.

sweet, tuesday i will go get some frag plugs and some dental floss, im assuming dont get kind thats flavored?any chance one of you has a pic of the frag tied to a plug just wanna make sure i get it right. also, is there anything i can use to help them heal faster or just let nature take its course? and lastly will the "mother" return to its normal shape, or will it take on a new shape over time? thanks for all the responses so far, i think im going to turn into a frag machine!
