Fragging Scolymia

Here is what they look like now that the epoxy has cured. Kind of a bubblegum pink that is supposed to blend in well with coralline algae. Doesn't seem to have shrunk a whole lot.

As far as selling goes I am in no hurry as I am really interested in watching the grow out.

Here is another picture of the unfragged Siamese twin with base rock repair. Seems to be doing fine. I'll probably go ahead and flip it around to the good side and no one will even see the repair.

Time for an update. And I was looking through some old ebay auctions and saw this one. Nice score for $100 for 2 scolys!

With shipping I think it was something like $138 if I recall correctly. It was as good a deal as I could find and it worked well for me allowing me to have my cake and eat it too. Since I could frag one of the Siamese twins and still have basically a whole Scoly. Currently there hasn't been much change since applying the epoxy. Only thing that I haven't reported is that both of those tiny 1/4" bits eventually fell prey to something in my tank. One was there one minute and when I came back an hour or so later it was gone. The other tiny piece last quite a while and was seeming to gain color etc. but appear to have been plucked off the rock one night. But, my main frags are still doing well.

I did eventually turn the big Scoly around after I was sure that it was getting along with the epoxy. So, here is how it looks in the tank now.

Here is an update of the large scoly that the other half was fragged from.

It's doing well and is much closer to being round than before it was fragged.

I will have to get some photos of the frags. I have found that the frags grow best when being fed. I have also found that my clownfish is bothering my scolys. Which has made them less likely to feed. Of the three frags one has made it to a near round shape. I think that it is thanks in part to it pulling tissue away from the side further away from the mouth and using it around mouth. The other two frags have kept all off the tissue attached to the original skeleton. All still have the ability to feed and have continued to regrow what has been chopped off. The two part epoxy seems to be working well. The larger Siamese twin of the Scoly that was fragged that Loki now has was growing onto the epoxy and coraline algae was also growing on it. I plan to keep one of the frags long term and hope to eventually get local homes for the other two frags. I am very new to reefing and these frags have managed to survive despite my inexperience.
