So this right here is a macro algae got from the coast of California, on the beach. I put it in my aquarium a while ago, and it grew great in saltwater, but everything went south with that tank as my mom drained it so she could move into my room when she saw a mouse in hers (she never apologized) but I decided that I might as well just refill it with freashwater and make a traditional planted tank, HOWEVER I didn’t take out all the macros and stuff, assuming they would die and get the nitrogen cycle kickstarted, and supply food for the new freshwater bacteria, so the water got green for a little bit, but when it settled I found this macro still alive, albeit damaged, but not brown and what I assumed was dead in the fallout that was my completely devastated tank. Now, this is where things get interesting. This macro is sending out ‘roots’ and growing again, really weird, please give your thoughts, I will see how this goes, as it could be due to a few things, here are my guesses
#1 the thing is dying, and the new roots it’s sending out is a response to this in a atempt to save itself
#2 only the skeleton is left, and green algae covered it, and the new-looking roots just haven’t decayed yet
#3 it is some unidentified brackish plant, not a macro (I didn’t get an ID, I just found it on the beach, however it really doesn’t look like one, so I kind of doubt this
#4 the water in my tank still retained some amount of salt, as I didn’t change the sand bed, and this macro just happened to be tough enough to survive in slightly brackish water-still surprising.
#5 this is simply a new species of freshwater adapted macro algae that was previously unknown, which wouldn’t be too surprising, as 5 sponges and jellyfish and crabs exist too.
(It seems to be related to caulpera due to the translucent roots it sends out)
