Hi all need some guidance here , I have a mixed tank of lps and a couple of sps . Last month I noticed my birds nest coral and milipora started to turn white . I found my nitrates were on the high side of 30 ppm . However all my LPS were opening well with full polyp extension. I started dosing Aqua forest nitraphos minus with pro bios and did a 20% water change . About 20 days later my nitrates were 13 ppm . My frogspawns 2 of them , 1 hammer snd 1 pink goniopora has now gone half the size they used to be . I’m thinking if I had brought my nitrates down too fast and what should I do . My other parameters as follows
PH 8.3-8.45
KH 8.75-8.9
Cal425
MG1470
Nitrate 13
Phosphate 0.06
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
SG1.025
Temp 25 degrees C

pics in white lighting help understand what you are describing. How old is the tank? How long has the hammer been in the tank? Do you have any other corals, how are they doing? What kind of lighting and flow do you have in the tank?

I’ll take some photos tomorrow when the light is on . Tank is 7 months old . All corals has been in it around 6 months. I have an elegance, Acan lords , zoas .bubble, maxima clam , GSP , red and purple morph , 1 Favia 1 lobo 1 blasto . All these corals are opening well . Flow to the frog spawn and hammer is very indirect, Thier polyps are gently swaying. They are getting around 150 PAR

corals get moody sometimes, then return to normal.
Everything in your post sounds great, hard to imagine why the corals would be unhappy.
I think pics will help us understand.

IME LPS liks frogs, hammers and euphyllia adjacent like dirtier water. Thats usually how i tell my tank is too clean, less polyp extension = feed more :)

Now im afraid you're in the "no ones happy" zone where your nutrients were high (actually not that high, id kill to keep my NO3 at 20+) and now that you've lowered it you may have annoyed some lps! Finding the balance in a mixed reef is always a pain.

But man is it worth it to see acro colonies sharing the spotlight with some nice euphyilla

Just taken some photos of my corals . If this would paint a clearer picture . As you can see the 2 frogspawn next to each other they used to open up double its size . The green hammer below the orange one as well . The orange one is doing ok as it was added recently just as the Nitrates were dropping so I think it’s probably not affected that much . That’s what I think . The rest of the photos show the other corals in the tank pretty happy.

Thats a nice looking tank!

Yea they might be pouting about the nitrate dropping but they'll come around!
