FS: SRO XP1000 SSS - Skimmer

I have decided to upgrade skimmers. Not that this skimmer was too small, it was intentionally over-sized for my tank. I have just decided to go even bigger with my skimmer.


It has been used for 6 months. No damage. It is in mint condition.*This skimmer is especially good for smaller sumps where space is valuable.




Prices:


- It currently retails for $420. I am offering it for $350. (You save money, get the same product, and don't have to worry about break in time. ;))


- I am also selling the SRO Neck Extension 170 (which I highly recommend) for $30. (paid $42 + shipping and tax)


NOTE: I can ship after next Wednesday or Thursday when I will be done setting up the new skimmer.

Just a friendly reminder but if you wash it to ship it then the end user will have to "break it in" again.

That is untrue. You have to break a skimmer in because of residual chemicals and solvents from the manufacturing process. Once those are gone, they are gone for good.

People give their skimmers a vinegar bath at least once a year. (And with no "re-breaking in")

False. Break-in is still necessary. Residual chemicals don't cause a skimmer to not produce the skimmate. You will have to break it in again to build up the nutrients in the neck and body to agitate the water. Break-in after initial break-in isn't as long the 2nd time around but there is still a time until the skimmer performs at peak performance.

You are talking about it re-building its "slime coat". Which takes about a day. Breaking in is a different thing.

The point is that the Break in of a new skimmer is different and takes longer than what you are referring to. Thank you for bringing it up as I can see how it would get confused.

I'm sure letting the slime coat dry out would not be good either. But the buyer can decide what he/she wants.
