Fungia in distress

Hi Everyone,

I am just looking for a little advice on my plate coral. I picked it up at the LFS and didn't look the best on the day I bought it. It appeared to have what looked like a little tissue damage but overall looked fine. This was about a month ago.

At this point the damage has been looking way worse. The coral will still eat though. I saw it eat a fish food pellet the other day and still loves reef roids.

The damage almost looks like it has grown algae at this point too, but there is this one little spec inside of the algae. Could this be a baby fungia? Should I continue to feed this thing or let it be?

Any input is appreciated. All other corals seem happy.

I'd keep feeding him and do an iodine dip as well. If he doesn't make it don't take him out of the tank, they can produce babies up to a year after they die

Thanks for the input. As far as the iodine dip goes, do you recommend a product off the shelf or should I just get some iodine from a CVS or something and mix with tank water?

I have had a plate look this bad after a crab attack and recover fully with just feeding.

It's possible it may heal without intervention but I like using the iodine to prevent tissue infection. I just use the Kent marine lugols solution

How often would you feed it the reef roids? I really only feed once a week. Should I increase that during this healing phase?

I use reef chili and normally feed my corals 2 or 3 times per week but I add it to the water column and don't target feed. It would probably be a good idea to feed a little more often but you do want to be careful not to overfeed and cause other problems though
