I've had cyno in my tank for about 2 months now. It bothers me so much I will manually remove. Clean the sand with a gravel back blow out the rocks and for some reason it comes back. I see piece put chemiclean in all the time but is it safe with sps? please help I will test water and post parameters in a hour.

Do you run gfo, or have a fuge, or skimmer.

How many fish and how many gallon tank? Whats your feeding schedule like and what do you feed.

This is a nutrient problem, chemicals are only temporary solutions if they even work.

Can be a nutrient problem, I recently got a cyano out break and my NO3 is <5ppm/PO4 0.00ppm via Hanna ULR checker.

Cyano can occur for many different reasons, usually being a newish system or a significant change, mine was going fallow. Any of the red slim/cyano products do work effectively and very well. Try to find out why the outbreak occurred and fox that first.

I use chemi clean for my Cyanobacteria. Usually clears it up in about one treatment. Also try not to stir up the sand bed it will cause the cyano to spread.

Params are
Temp 80
Salt 1.025
Mag 1350
Alk 8.6
Cal 460
No3 1ppm
Po4 .12
I know the po4 is high, should I dose potassium nitrate to get the no3 higher to get in ratio? Where do I go I increased flow that helped for a couple days.

Id scope it to see for sure, since you were positive it wasnt before. Then you know how to go forward. Typically the lights dont work, but theres a great thread on it here

I knocked back t5 lights as well to 4 hrs a day will ramp back up every 3 days. I've also read good things about algea fix marine! Gonna go that route. I was originally gonna do chemiclean but didn't wanna Chance it with 60 ish peices, to mini colonies of sps.

Why would the dinos have started in a 4+ year old tank? Didn't add no new sand or rock...

Only thing different was I started fragging zoas ad attaching to China frag plugs 2.5 weeks ago, and I changed my spectra pure filter on my Rodi unit.

Theyre probably there all along, but a change in biodiversity can make them flourish. Check out the theead in this forum by twillard. Tons of good info.
