So i have a container of the Rox 0.8 carbon from BRS. I have been using my phosban reactor, and its lame. It slips through the foam filter so now, i put it in a media bag first, then out it in the reactor.every carbon change I have to pull the reactor apart, clean out the media bag, fill a new media bag, make sure i get just the right amount so I can fill the reactor enough to force water through vs around and just.. bleh.

Am I better off buying different media that won't fit through the foam? Seems like that would still leave a lot of empty space to tumble unless I used a LOT of GAC or filled it with foam which sounds like a nutrient sink.

Just through it in a bag in the sump and call it good enough?

Buy an actual reactor?

I've done both. Honestly prefer the bag for the easier cleanup. I will try a filter cup next and see if that makes it even easier.

I think i'm just gonna throw a bag in the sump. The reactor works well, i just hate changing it so.. I dont haha

I think the rox 0.8 works great passively. I feel it’s not quite as extreme with protein removal when ran passively. Still get great water clarity and it seems to neutralize coral warfare still. I place mine in a filter cup in a seachem small mesh size bag as needed. I also only use like 3 tbsp when I think I need it. Then change when I think it’s needed again.

Yup reactors are no fun to muck with. I’ve found my system runs as good or better just running nothing or if I feel the need for carbon or phosphate removal, bags in the filter cups are super easy and work great for my smallish 80 gallon system.

I have a basement sump, so access is really not bad, but i hate filling, test fitting, adding more, test fitting, pulling some out because it won't fit, splashing water everywhere, 😂 😂

Yeah the reactor process itself sucks. Also I was just researching rox carbon. It’s really a game changing carbon for reef aquariums in my experience. Worlds better than the old marine land style granules.
Rox is extruded into pellets and is very hard and dust free it is. It also allows you to use so much less. Glad I switched.

Side note. I’m so jealous of people with basements and fish rooms! So cool.

I definitely like it better than getting on my hands and knees to clean my sump!
