Polyfil filtration help

Hi!!

I have an AIO JBJ 20g rimless. It comes with a big filter sponge, carbon, and ceramic media. I don't plan on running a skimmer, but I would like to add some poly-fil as a filter.

I assume when it comes into the rear chamber via the overflow slots the water should pass through

filter sponge
\
then poly fil
\
then carbon

How do I keep the little poly-fil fibers from shredding and going into the tank?
How do I make sure the sponge doesnt over-compress the poly-fil?
How do I make sure the water actually flows through the poly-fil and not just around it?

I tried putting some in a media bag underneath the sponge but it doesn't seem to be the correct approach heh

I run polyfill as my only filter media instead of a sock or a sponge.
I have a 3d printed filter floss cup that it sits inside the overflows on my IM 20g AIO. Some fiber will inadvertantly make its way to your return pump but if you clean the pump you can just pull it out.

You can do a google search and hopefully find one made for your tank so you can maximize its use.

Id put the poly first in the stream. It catches the big chunks and it is easy to remove from the top layer and replace. I have a 45 gallon sump and my first level of filtration right out of the overflow is a layer of poly. it then goes through some bio spheres, then to the skimmer chamber. I replace it about once a week. It is in a 150 FOWLR with a bunch of messy eaters so it gets trashed quickly. I use it in my 32 cube with anemones and only replace it about once every 6 weeks or whenever the water level drops some in the return chamber making noise and letting me know it is clogged.
