Gallons to litres

The majority of articles/websites I read are US based so when talking about tank size they use Gallons. In the UK we use Litres the majority of the time.

So my question is, when converting it over is it US gallons to Litres or standard gallon to litres?. As there is a difference in size obviously. I’m assuming US but wanted to check.

US gallon is 3.785 litres
Standard gallon is 4.54609 litres

Yes, it's the US gallon and not our gallon. But it's an easy enough conversion to factor into your aquarium calculations for dosing etc where it's easier to work in litres.

I was actually looking into all this because I will be upgrading from a nano tank to a much bigger tank and was trying to work out what size for which tang. Or my dream fish of a puffer/box fish of some type.

Us gallons is different than traditional. I would either use Google or do litres x 3.785

Well to be perfectly honest, here you are looking a 6ft (1.8m) tank or there abouts. Pop into your LFS (probably the same chain as mine) and the fish will be tiny and cute.......but they are fast growing and get big and you don't want the hassle of chasing your tail by having to go bigger every year to keep up......

Tiny big fish in big tank is going to give you more joy than tiny big fish in small temporary tank and the hassle and extra expenses this route involves.

In your case you literally want as big as you can go.

When I was a wee lad the President of the Union said that we should all convert to the metric system with those silly little liters and lengthy meters.

Many years later I was doing chemistry and physics and realized how beautiful the metric system is, and still today I have to do the conversions for medicine and chemistry that I experience in my reefing life.

I apologize for the delay in our conversion processes. I don’t remember hearing Don speaking about this issue so I suspect that it may not change anytime soon?

Perhaps we should all consider writing to Elon and asking him to get this resolved in the next few years.

My next aquarium is definitely going to be bespoke to suit how I need to maintain my tank, but for an off the shelf option, that's much nicer than the typical glass box and particle board stand we usually get offered at those prices.

My friend is a distributor for maxspect and their new tanks are amazing as they have built in “brains” so everything can be controlled by an app. But at £4,349.99 they’re a bit out of my price range!
