Hello to all, I’ve been out of the hobby for about 20 years, I’m from the Bob Fenner Anthony Calfo era of the late 90’s. I traveled to much to reef. 4 months ago I woke up to my tonsils trying to kill me with cancer, before you pity that, I’m very fortunate my odds are over 90% it was caught early. This has forced a very active individual to slow down, I had plans to incorporate a custom tank into our dream home, unfortunately medical requirements are killing that idea. Making the best of a bad situation I found a reefer getting out of the hobby and selling his pro clear aquatics peninsula 230 for 1000. It’s less than a year old. He gutted it, its tank stand and sump only and in need of a good decon.
I’ve been out of this so long I’m not current on equipment or methodology. I have previously kept a fowlr predator at 125 gallons, 45 gallon office mini reef, several nano 10-15 gallon as well as the associated qt and support tanks. I’m not necessarily a noob but I’m smart enough to know when I’m outdated and what I don’t know can get expensive quick.
For reference traveling finished it off but when my PC light socket shorted and melted the plastic into my office reef (4yrs mature) and wiped 90% of it within an hour it was disheartening to say the least then came the travel so it slowly withered away. Now I’m back, I’m bored, I’m sick and I’m looking to do this as therapy to not go stir crazy.
My plan is to do an LPS and Zoa mix reef with low fish load.
Since I’m ill and radiation and chemo are not kind this project will be stretched over an indeterminate amount of time (hard to say how good I feel on any given day).
What I’d like to do is enter discussions with you, the newly experienced crowd and get myself current on things while I plot and scheme to make it happen.
