I have a few monti colonies in my mixed reef tank. Over time I have moved some of them but in areas they are moved from there are small pieces that are encrusted on the rock that stay and over time they grow into a new colony and encrust more. Is there a trick to remove them? I can't take the rock out. I was thinking about scrubbing them wiht a hard bristle brush of some sort ? any ideas?

You could super glue over them.

Good luck, I've been trying for the last 3 years, I can't kill it. Leaving the smallest crumb inside a hole you can't reach will enable it to grow back. Look at the pic, it grew out from under the lepto rock, in a low light low flow spot

I think that montipcaps are worse than aiptasias. That is, there are predators that will eat them! I've tried to kill monticap several times but they always came back like a vengeance several months later. I wish that acros have this "problem"! lol

Good luck!

While not ideal one can always move the rock to another frag or display. That way you can take time to properly rehome, remove, or come up with another scheme to mitigate or mange the problem.
