Getting to know other people here

in all honesty though, ive had more messes from a canister than I have a sump... ive never spilled a drop out of my sump, but I had 2 different canisters leak.

I read about in here with power outages and stuff, tank overflows or something. But there always seems to be something.
It's gonna be life this for me, 55 gallon or less, all-in-one or canister filter. Or a larger tank, like the 180 gallon I dream of having, I will get a sump cause the large nyos skimmer I want.

It's the IM fuge light. It's like 50$. I think. It does the job for sure. No heat transfer. Only down side I have to plug it in and out evey day. I alternate from my display light. Have tons of pods in my tank. Thinking of picking up a dragonet and giving away my clowns.

floods only happen when people don't set their systems up right. when they don't use an overflow box, or if their ato is stuck on or they don't build their sump to hold the right amount of water. I had a 20 gallon sump on my 75 and never even got close to an overflow lol. it all comes in the prep work. I would do an AIO before I used a canister. you can make a really nice one out of a 40 breeder.

The reason you added a sump is because of the extra bioload?

couldn't you just plug it into a timer from home depot?

Anyway, I want that jbj frag tank, and that's an all in one. I maybe just try the caniter. I will have a house of tanks. The quarantine tanks, the frag tank, the main tank. That'll be at least four tanks.

lol once I decide what house I want to buy and get moved in, I plan on a dozen different tanks... itll go something like this....

main display will be 300 gallon fowlr with porc puffer, couple angels, tangs, wrasses, you know, the non reef safe fish.
second display will be a 150 cube mixed reef
third display will be a 90 gallon clownfish and anemone tank. probably a dozen clowns and nems.
fouth will be a 40 breeder with a peacock mantis shrimp and a couple damnsels (essentially food for the mantis lol)
fifth will be a 180 gallon predator tank
sixth will be a 50+ gallon column tank housing seahorses and pipefish
seventh will be a 75 display fuge completely packed with macro
eighth will be my 1 gallon tank
ninth will be a intertidal lagoon tank (this will be a PITA to setup as it will have a flood and drain system on it to simulate the tide going in and out.)
10th will be a 75 gallon freshwater planted
11th will be a frag tank designed as a touch tank for my kids. mostly inverts that they can use to study and learn about and use for school projects.
12th will be a frag tank for my frags.

think im gonna need to power my house with wind otherwise ill go broke from my electric bill lol

Lol, that's some large plans right there. You will have quarantine tanks too?

yeah but once I buy a house im not planning on moving anytime soon so I would be able to build them all overtime. the only one I didn't put in that is a plan ive been working on for a 1500 gallon shark tank. would be a concrete tank with acrylic viewing panels, a mangrove forest 2 banded cat sharks, tons of smaller community fish, lots of macro, lots of inverts, probably an eel with its own cave etc... but I would have to have the perfect house to fit that lol

And a gigantic canister filter! I am just playing. Lol 1500 gallons is allot of water, do you have a well or do you use the country water?

I have a well at this house but im not sure im going to buy this house. it needs more work than I want to put into it. its got a huge basement which would be great for sumps and stuff but it needs to be completely redone. its always wet, floors aren't even, low ceiling etc... but this house was built in the 30s so its expected to need a lot of work. so when im ready to buy next year or the year after we are going to look at a lot of houses plus I may make an offer on this one. if I make an offer on this one I have the perfect place for all my tanks....
100 foot by 30 foot concrete slab pole barn! I can fit all my tanks in there and heat the whole thing instead of individual heaters lol

That's good. My remember my sister rented a house years ago before she built her house, and it was $400 a month. Idk what happened between then and now. Lol
I remember I inquired about a little one bedroom house, just curious, and they wanted $700 a month. One bedroom apartment in a nice apartment complex is $1000 a month. I will have to look long and hard for a good deal for good neighborhood.

That's good. My remember my sister rented a house years ago before she built her house, and it was $400 a month. Idk what happened between then and now. Lol
I remember I inquired about a little one bedroom house, just curious, and they wanted $700 a month. One bedroom apartment in a nice apartment complex is $1000 a month. I will have to look long and hard for a good deal for good neighborhood.

craigslist is where I found mine. the price wasn't listed. they wanted someone to live there that would take care of the place. theyre not really into making money off the hosue right now. they got the house when they bought the farm around it. with no use for the house they decided to rent it out just to have someone here to take care of it. I basically pay for the insurance for the farm lol

Canister filter turns into a detritus trap without frequent cleanings and it is a PITA to clean. Better to use a HOB (like Aquaclear) that is quick & easy to clean.
