(This is a long, whimsical post, the TL:DR is hey i found cool stuff today, good for me)
(p.s. I had to add some characters in b/c it was censoring words it though offensive but I Was using in a historical reference)
So - Two things.
One, I encourage everything with a sense of humor to watch Fishcenter.com. It's a call-in internet stream every weekday, with a fancy, giant FOWLR tank (they have like, 2 triggers, a zebra moray, harlequin tusk, banana wrasse, green bird wrasse, star and stripes puffer....) and use photoshop to overlay coins and a timer over the tank, and have the fish compete in games (they arent aware of) and people can call in and vote for their favorite fish.
Second, holy cow one of the coolest thing's that's ever happened in my life today, and I want to share it here because I like you guys.
So my girlfriend (who I've mentioned in this thread before, actually, and I will say, is a huge advocate of my tank, and loves it) she has this dad who's not in the picture, for many years. Won't go into details, but she kept talking about this N@zi knife, and WW2 katana that her mom had in a closet from her grandfather on the estranged father's side. So, she's house sitting for mom this week, and I spend the weekend with her at mom's house, and she goes hey let's go check out dad's old stuff and you can tell me if any of this is cool.
The n@zi knife (btw I'm of J3wish descent, it's okay for me to talk about this) is amazing, it had a sw@stika emblem, some German inlay, and the handle looks like an eagle. It seems to me to CLEARLY be some kind of officer knife. The Katana is also super interesting in the same way the na zi knife is, from a historical position - it's not a nice katana at all, it's one of the machine stamped ones they gave to infantry, I think near the end of the war possibly, to boost morale? I'm not a historian so please correct me if someone knows the origin better. I can show you the pics of this stuff too if anyone's interested.
So wait though, that wasn't it.
First, she's like, hey I know how you like Star Wars stuff, check this out. First are some Art of Star wars books - didn't seem that valuable, but kind of interesting. But then... holy s***t but then.
Here, look at these. Uh Star Wars: The Adventures of Luke Skywalker. Inside it says "Soon to be a major genre defining motion picture!" Publish date was like, 75 or so, before '77 when episode 4 came out. She had all three of the novelations that came out before the films, first print, REALLY good condition, all hardcover.
I was like, wow, you...you really have no idea what these are, do you? Let me show you something. Pull up ebay. Just the first one is $700 on eBay. We both start grinning.
THEN, she's like, hey, you keep wanting to read Hitchhiker, right? Sue me, I'm 3o+ and haven't read it yet. IN MY DEFENSE, I have tried to buy it SEVERAL TIMES over the past 5 years and every used bookstore is sold out of the first book.
So she's like here, look, I have the whole trilogy. I look at them and look at her with a funny look again.
Effin' book 1 - 3 of Hitchiker, Original Prints, Hardcover. I think worth 80-300 on eBay for the first one. Again, I'm sure as a set they're more valuable too.
......AND!!!! Also, I accidentally forgot them so she has to bring them over next time, but I also pointed out to her nothing less than a bunch of first edition Frank Millers and i forget his name, the guy who wrote Watchmen.
It was the first time in my life I helped someone look through junk and came up with fricken' gold.
No we aren't going to sell it all immediately for tank stuff. That's stupid and impulsive.
We are going to sell it all for a downpayment on a house eventually, and then buy really big tanks and put them in that house. Mmmmm.

That knife sounds like it's worth a bit. The star wars stuff too. Since it's her granddad ' s knife, you sure she wants to sell that? Just wondering. Could be an heirloom, but with a kinda messed up history to it.

I have a job interview and I am nervous already. This will be interview number 5, I just wish my interview skills were a little bit better. But there is alot of competition for these jobs. I just wish I can get one already and not have to worry anymore. Say a prayer for me please.

Our AFL Grand Final is this coming weekend, my team just got knocked out in the preliminary final. I just signed up to fox so I could get more NFL games, hope the Seahawks can avenge the terrible loss to the Pats last year. Still don't know why they didn't run the ball and go back to back.... dang it.
