yeah it takes me longer to cycle a freshwater than a saltwater lol saltwater may have more stages of a cycle and be a bit more touchy but freshwater still takes time for the bacteria to grow.

the amazon sword wasn't doing great when I got it. it was in sand with low flow. put it in the dirt and moderate to high flow area and the thing took off.

They don't sell them anymore, but the penguin on on back canister filter, and you put the polishing micron filter cartridge in. Made the water real clear.

yeah, I just had a sheet of polishing sponge from coarse to med to fine all sitting in the bubble trap right before the return section.

Yeah, idk if I would ever do sump with a sump with freshwater tank. Drilling and overflows, nah. A canister or power filter makes life easier. A sump is a good for reef tanks though.

I am not a college football fan, I like professional football. So many people around here are so into LSU football, some people treat it like it's the only thing in life. They lost the last game badly, and they are losing so bad right now. I don't watch the games, I Google the score on occasion to see what's happening. It's so humbling for people who are stuck on LSU football.

After a while, my tank was stable. All in one contained system like a canister filter is simple. Really, it's like a sump in a way, except contained. I always wanted a really nice canister filter, but I couldn't afford it back then.

Another thing is when a power outage happens, the filter will shut off and you don't have to worry about it. I have read allot of threads with people who go sumpless. It's tempting, and another thing that is tempting are those all-in-one systems.

yeah my 75 started with a couple hob, then I went with a canister which worked great compared to the hob then when the canister filter turned into too much work for me, I went sump and it kicked the crap out of the canister filter. lol

sumpless is fine on any tank. ive seen sps tanks done sumpless with everything hob and they looked great if you ignored the equipment. ive seen amazing AIO setups too. a great tank to do an AIO in is a 40 beeder. lots of room to play with. I prefer sumps just for ease of maintenance. for instance, on that 75 the only maintenance I did was to change the filter floss once a month. other than that I didn't do anything to it for 8 months. I stopped doing water changes about 3 months after I stocked it. ended up going a full year without a water change and only changing filter floss. only reason I did a water change then was because I trimmed the jungle down and had a bunch of scraps that needed removed and I ended up doing about a 60 gallon total water change over the course of the day.
