I need to run some GFO and got a nice Red Sea media bag

It says to rinse until clear except it won’t get clear?

Also little particles still won’t stop coming through the bad after nearly 15 min of rinse

I am mixing it in my hands a bit is that the issue? Am I grinding it?

Is it safe to put in the sump?
Thanks in advance!

Yea don’t mix with your hands. Make sure the media bag is small enough in microns. If it’s coming out of the bag that sounds like it has to big of holes, rinse until clear otherwise. Put it in medium flow area of the sump. I place mine in my sump baffle before my return.

Kind of nervous about trying it.

What happens if it comes out of the back? Risk to live stock?

I'd imagine fish would have a hard time digesting it if they decided to try to eat it. If there's small pieces comming out of the bag when rinsing, than you just need a new bag. Some bags have larger pores to allow more water flow, but are not suitable for all media. Would probably work fine for GAC, but GFO can be a good bit smaller in grain size, and would need a tighter mesh. Media bags are cheap, worth a few bucks now rather than trying to clean up later.

I have run GFO in a bag for quote some time. worked fine for me. Not quite as efficient as in a reactor, but still plenty for my needs.

I never had success running GFO in a bag. I run it in a reactor by itself and adjust the water flow so that GFO can tumble slightly.
