I would suggest you leave all the profilux stuff in the box for the time being.

You need to get the tank up and stable to start with.

In a few months time, worry about automation as it will be a little clearer then.

Here is the link to the exact manual for the 3.1N (although the basics are identical to the 3.1T I posted earlier).

I'm not sure I can be much more help until you've read this manual.

If you want items identified then you can post pictures, but as I've mentioned, to start with you just need to find the 12v power supply. If you have that plugged in to the Profilux and it isn't working, then you might need to raise a ticket with GHL. If you get to the stage where the Profilux is plugged in with the 12v power supply and it is working, then the next step is to get the powerbar and find the data cable that connects it to the Profilux. If it is the powerbar shown in the manual then it connects via the red S1S4 or S5S8 socket, as shown in the manual.

No you don't. You're buying trouble with stuff that you don't yet have the basic knowledge to interpret what it will tell you.

I'm sure that the heaters have thermostats, use them manually.

Most folks don't add automated control until they can drive a tank by hand, and no offense, you're a long way from that point if you've just inherited a tank.

I have had my tank 20 years. I upgraded. so I'm not new at reefing. what I am new at is the GHL system and FINNEX heaters that do NOT have controller's unless you buy them, but this system will run them on itself vs the FINNEX controller... as does the lights, the sensors, the heaters and dosers.

Well, for a start, that silver powerbar in the top right photo still has the 'data' cable plugged in!! The other end of that cable plugs into the Profilux (if it says PAB on the powerbar then it plugs into the PAB socket). It looks like the 12v power supply may also still be plugged in to the Profilux. If so, that is all you need to connect the basic system and start playing with the programming.

I think (but am not sure) that the black powerbars are non-PAB. If that is the case then one will plug into the S1S4 socket and the other will plug into the S5S8 socket; if the powerbar has a part number on it then a google search might confirm that.

I can see some float switches that plug into the 'level' ports (assuming they are GHL genuine float switches).

The probes in the top left are the sensors. If there is a PH probe there, that is dry, then it will probably need replacing.

If you are trying to plug everything back into the exact sockets where they were then I think you will have trouble. I, personally, would reset everything and start again so that it is programmed how you want it (and so that you know how to troubleshoot/change anything in the future). Start simple and work up.

The manual for the Profilux Touch (the display on top of the Profilux 3 in your picture) is here, although you don't need that initially:

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but is the Touch screen plugged straight into the Profilux? If so, that won't work; you need the Touch Interface.

This is shown in the Profilux Touch manual that I posted earlier. I hate to keep banging on about it, but if you're not a manual reading person then GHL could end up being quite frustrating for you. Plugging it in is the easy bit!!

If the Touch screen is plugged in via the interface (via PAB), then what do you currently have plugged into the USB port of the Profilux?

My main confusion is why nothing is shown on the main screen of the Profilux itself.

Ok so this is hugely embarrassing! I didnt know, because someone said it was for dosing....I have a brand new Profilux 4! so that's been set up! The guy I got it from actually called me, and walked me through a bunch of this stuff!! :)
Timing is off but I'll take it! Thank You immensely, for your help! I really appreciate it!

Is it a 4 or a 4e? If it's a 4 then it will have red sockets on the back, if it's a 4e then it won't (the 4 also has 4 Probe connections, whereas the 4e only has 2).

If the latter, then I don't think it is compatible with some of your power bars, unless you add expansion cards. I think it should work with your PAB power bars (if you intend to use some of your other GHL items with it).

It is possible that the screen on the front of your Profilux 3 has failed, but it should still have worked with the Touch screen. I much prefer the Profilux 4 over the 3 though.

so the black power bars, are the newer version I guess. I will be taking down the grey ones, because I have 3 of the black ones. I'm not sure which 4 it is...I'm honestly so exhausted from trying to read through manuals and trying to sort this stuff out. I'll look tomorrow, and see which one it is..as far as the 3, I guess it was just a back up. the touch screen, he told me, now I forgot how to get that going...I'll probably remember tomorrow after some rest. On the plus side, it's working, and now I can get my egg crate, and sand in, then start getting my tank transferred! YAY!
I do really appreciate so much, You helping!! Thank You!

I’ve just had a quick look at the GHL PowerBars and what I said earlier might be incorrect. It looks like all of your powerbars might be PAB. If they are, they will all be compatible with the Profilux 4.

Connecting PAB devices is easy as they can be plugged in, in any order. The only thing to watch out for is that they can’t be in a loop, they just need to be in a chain.

yes. I have enough PAB cables to daisy chain them.

so, I was able to share my computer with the guy that sold me this unit last night, after still not being able to get the Profilux 4 working. Turns out, that my firewall, was blocking the thing, and didn't even alert me...meaning the computer settings were default from manufacturing. for what it's worth, Microsoft and anything German made, this can happen. So for now, I am able to accomplish a few things! So happy! @FishyFishFish THANK YOU, for at least trying to help!! I so sincerely appreciate that, and the fact that you didn't react as though I didn't have a brain in my head!! You cant do a thing, if the firewall itself, instantly blocks what your trying to do. Now, to get it set up, and wait for my new light pucks that turn it from fresh to salt, and those should be here tomorrow!:D

Ghl software engineers are stuck in the 90's Wifi connectivity and compatability with current tech should never be an issue in 2022. Amazing hardware combined with Wonky user interface.
