Sup guys,

woke up today to the smell of burnt plastic, looked around went into my garage and saw that the GHL mitras light was off and smoking... Anyone got any experience with this? This is actually the second GHL light of mine that went bad! And I literally just bought this guy like a few months ago from BRS too. :(

Good thing you caught it before something terrible happened!

just checking, do you have a gfci outlet that the tank is plugged into?
Shouldnt happen regardless but just for safety reasons

also is this the mitras lightbar or lx?

GFCI won't help in this case you need a AFCI outlet. GFCI keeps you from getting electrocuted AFCI keeps the house from burning down.

Can you post photos of what actually failed in the light and was smoking?

Would an AFCI help in this case? Assuming it was the light itself and not the external power supply.

dang, that's not good. Glad you caught it in time, and nothing worse happened. Very dangerous if something catches fire.

If some sort of short caused the issue then and AFCI would have tripped (smoke and heat would indicate that it was a short of some type)

The light has an external 24VDC power supply. I'm not sure that an AFCI would trip for a fault on the 24VDC, outside of a fault within the power supply itself.
