GHL just came out with a Wi-Fi version of the Profilux Mini. The Wi-Fi version of the controller allows operation via GHL Connect (app and web interface) and myGHL (cloud service). It will also allow for connection of level sensors and the GHL automatic feeder, both currently in development.

I picked up a controller set to use on my 15 gallon Waterbox AIO (https://www.aquariumcomputer.com/usa/product/profilux-mini-wifi-set-black-usa-cnd/). The set comes with a Powerbar STDL4-4, temperature probe and PH probe.

Initial setup of the controller went well. I did it through GCC (desktop software), connected via the USB port. I have a Profilux 4 on my Waterbox 40.2, so I am familiar with GHL products. The only issue I encountered was that GCC did not allow me to backup the controller settings. It was missing a file. I was running GCC V1.1.2.7 and I needed to install the current beta version V1.1.2.8. Once I did that I was able to perform the backup.

I placed the probes in the center chamber, being held in place by the filter sponge.

I'm currently using the controller to control the heaters for the tank. I have it setup with a primary heater and backup heater. Each heater is a 50W Eheim. I have it setup exactly the same as I do on my 40.2 (40.2 Temperature Control Post)

I will probably look at lighting the tank with Kessil A80 as I'll be able to us the Mini to control it. I have a Fluval Sea Marine Nano LED, but it failed and I had to send it in for replacement (which they wont have till next month!). Luckily I only have a couple of snails and hermits in the tank.

The other thing I might add to the controller is a level switch when the adapter comes out. For use as a backup to an ATO (currently don't have one). Tried the Tunze Nano, but the pump was way too loud as the tank is in the bedroom. Which is too bad as I really like the Osmolator on the 40.2.

The return pump for the tank is connected to a Tripp-Lite switched power strip. The Power STDL4-4 does not have a default state like the other Powerbars. So if it looses connection or communication with the controller the sockets turn off. You can't make them fail on, which is what I would do for the return pump.

The only other negative I've noticed is that the controller does not have email notifications. I hope this is something that they can add, as this is one of the main functions of having a controller.

Power for the controller is connected to the permanent power socket on the Tripp-Lite.

This controller and its price point are a game changer...

Hi Ingchr1
Thanks for the above review as i am hoping to get the profilux mini wifi for my reefer 170.
as said in the review there is no email alerts.
But is it possible to log on to the cloud service to see whether the set tank parameters such as PH/Temp is within the given range?
Can the cloud alert the phone app?
thanks again for the above information

Hi,

Yes you would be able to log into the cloud service or app to check on tank parameters or operate the controller.

To my knowledge the cloud service does not have the capability to send out alerts.

Perfect little controler, If I didn't already buy a GHL mega set I would have one of these.
Funny how this page is being bombarded with Apex adds on the EL version controller.. :D

how is your mini doing so far? did they ever add the logging and notifications in a firmware update or will that be for a new mini model? and how does it control the PH?

The logging and notifications have not been added yet.

For control it has the outlets and 1-10V.

oh, that’s too bad. i’m not too familiar with controllers. forgive me if my question is a little naive. if i were to plug a BRS 1.1 ml dosing pump with a kalkwasser solution can i tell the controller to keep this doser on until i reach a certain ph number and shut it off until it dips to a certain ph number?

I don't use the pH value to control anything so you would have to get input from others on what you want to do, but you can set the outlets to control based off of the pH value.

Here's a link to the user manual.

@ingchr1 Thanks for all your input on this. I was wondering what do you use this for? I too have a nano and don't want to invest in a larger GHL or Apex

Some of the tasks/features I would like are:
1. Temp control
2. Turn lights on/off
3. ATO
4. AWC
5. PH monitoring
6. Auto feeder

1, 2, and 5 are possible. No ATO or AWC because they still haven’t developed the adapter. No auto feed because they never developed the auto feeder. I think covid hit GHL hard. Still no software update to do basic things like logging the ph or temp.

I reached out to ghl about the logging and was told it wasn’t listed as a feature so I am SOL. I’m pretty disappointed in the support for the product, but at the same time it works well and I will probably get the P4 eventually. Just a shame to see such a good product like the pmini Miss its target by not including basic software function like logging, or adding the features like level sensors which have been “on the roadmap” for over a year.

Care to give an update @Vinny@GHLUSA
?

@Max_nano Thanks for the quick reply. That's a shame! I can not be the only one that thinks there must be a huge market for nano/AIO tank owners who want some control/automation without the need to invest in very expensive and/or large systems.

I would be 100% happy with an inkbird as a 2nd layer of protection and an AutoAqua that had Smart ATO, RO & AWC. A wifi smart power strip to turn on/off lights, return pump, powerheads.

I’m looking at the maxi doser for awc but would be using the child version since I can use level sensors from the P4 whenever I get that. You could get the stand alone version of the maxi doser and I believe it would include a level sensor. I have the 2.1 stand alone doser and it has a level sensor and I split it and have it connected to two optical sensors
