Giesemann Aurora V12

Just wondering why I don’t see more reefers with this light? Seems like an easy set and forget fixture rather than tinkering with several smaller units. Anybody have this fixture that can provide some feedback and/or pics? I’ve always been a halide/T5 guy, but I’m trying to keep light spill at a minimum with my new build.

I’ve also heard there’s a new Spectra halide fixture supposedly hitting the market soon. Perhaps I’ll wait for that.

Hallide lights in my opinion will soon be a thing of the past. T5/hallides have already begun disappearing from European markets.

I have the Giesemann Aurora V12. It's a nice fixture but there are one or two things I don't like too much:

• Attaching it to the ceiling is a bit sketchy. You need to drill deep and make sure there is no way of it slipping out. It's a large light with a lot of weight (I have the 1.5 meter version) and it is only attached by one cable on each side, which looks really sketchy.
• It takes at least 3 power connections (even 4 if you add the upgrade). This may be different for smaller fixtures though.

Now that I have it set up properly I'm quite happy with it otherwise. The light has both benefits: Soft light so SPS don't bleach on one side due to hard shadows caused by LEDs. And then you have the focus clusters which create a soft ripple effect while providing the power required for light hungry corals.

This has been said for at least 8 years now. I’m seeing more and more demand for halides to come back to the market. Not because one is better than the other, but because the appearance of halides + T5s seems to be almost impossible to replicate with LEDs. It’s also interesting that Giesemann is rumored to be coming out with a new Spectra fixture.
