Hello,

I'm thinking of upgrading my current tank to a larger one, and I was going to gift my existing tank to a friend looking to get into the hobby.

I have a very low bioload currently (just a single clown and some inverts), so I was thinking of bringing my LR to the new tank + 1/2 of the old sand&water. Then topping off both the new and old tanks with new water+salt. The idea being that enough of the good bacteria would be around that neither of us would have to cycle tanks from scratch?

It this an OK idea, or am I asking for trouble?

What size tank are we talking about? How often did you clean your sand? Be careful that you are not going to stir up a bunch of detritis in the process and introduce a bump in ammonia and nitrates. I won't reuse sand unless it is thoroughly cleaned.
