Gig or Squamosa

LFS got in 2 clams that are about 8 inches and supposed to be Squamosa but they look like Gigs to me,

thoughts?

It’s a store here in Arizona

What threw me was the colors and patterns. Absolutely no swirls or circles like on every Squammie I have ever seen.

You had better buy that thing. It's awesome. The lack of scutes makes me think Gigas.

Gigas is pretty rare these days. If it is a gigas that would be awesome. There are squamosa clams without traditional markings on the mantle and there are gigas with markings on the mantle so it can be hard to tell. This is a tough one. @Tahoe61 any thoughts? Either way it's a beautiful clam and worthy of buying, that's for sure.

They are about 8 inches so I’m positive they can’t be Crocea

I think squammy based on the presence of fringes around the inhalant siphon and the lack of iridophore rings around the eye spots.

Check out my video - I have a few Squamosa that look just like it. I also have one with the swirls. Colors are very similar.

Thank you for asking. It seems to be doing very well. February marked the 10th anniversary that I've had it.
