So I have done a bit of research, but I have a question for the masses. They say do not alter the plumbing to the sump in any way or it will not work properly. So if I decided to wye the drain and split it into two drains (one to the sump, one to the 'fuge), would that truly make a difference in the function of the overflow?

My plans are for a 40b and the 700 gph kit...

Thanks for any help.

I am aware of Glass-Holes statement about not altering the plumbing, but with some ignorance, I'd say as long as you stay at 1 1/2 inches you'd be OK. Just don't reduce the pipe size.
