I was able to remove a fitting from a PVC pipe to reuse the pipe as it was glued to a unique fitting to a UV sterilizer and I couldn't find anything to connect to the existing fitting. Was a PITA, cutting away the fitting almost to the original pipe, leaving maybe 1mm, in about 10 places, then using channel locks to break off each 1/2" section of fitting from the pipe. took about an hour or so to do, but the pipe was able to have a new fitting glued on and no leaks.

I don't know if pipe could be removed to reuse a fitting. I guess if you're well enough equipped some good drill press skills could work, or slowly grind the pipe out. may not leave a very nice surface to reglue to though.

If you do something like that and end up chewing up the pipe or fitting, but can't replace it, you could likely still use it and fill gaps with a 2 part epoxy for plastic and use that to glue the joint instead of PVC cement. I'd consider this a last resort though only if the part couldn't be replaced.
