OK guys I have a build thread for my tank up here, but this sump is so cool it deservs it own thread :D

I looked all around and found my ideal sump, unfortunately it was a bit out of my reach @ $750 :( so I decided to build my own! I found a guy on Craigslist who sold me a full 4'x8' sheet of 9mm (3/8") cast acrylic for $50! So let the fun begin!

I decided to go with a Petco 40 breeder, since they are running thie DPG sale, and then I cut my own baffles. They are not perfect as all I had to cut with was a jig saw, but that's what u get when u try to build a $750 sump for unde $200.

I have ordered some AVT108 to silicon for the baffles and some weldon4 to attach a couple pieces for the filter socks. But anyways on to the pics.

I'll be sure to update this thread with my progress. And if you have some time check out my build thread!!

So without further adieu, I give you the Kraken!

I still have a little touchup work to do, but so far I think its going to be pretty sweet. And my inspiration for the design came from one of the awesome sponsors of this site ;) it will become more evident as this thread progresses lol

I made stencils with the vynal underlayment you use for cabinets. Then spray painted it with krylon fusion paint ;) then did touchup work with a small art paintbrush. It worked pretty well but the vynal shrinks and contorts when hit with the spray paint so touch up was a must.

I still have to wipe off the blue sharpie I used to mark my spot for the baffles, so just ignore the blue lines LOL
