go big or go home

I used to buy and gut and sell setups when I had free time. I rescued many fish from pretty bad situations. Poor hippo tangs would get horrible hlle in poor care by many on Craigslist

Yeah. She said it had "hole in head" from having to medicate in the past...??

Yeah that's HLLE I argue that good water quality and varied high quality diet prevents and treats this. Especially lots of nori

Be safe jack post are dirt cheap and come in any lengths..
No matter the house that is allot of weight, there can always be a flaw in a joist or a bad piece of lumber..

Buy two and put a board between the two where the tank is. Usually under the outer edge because the back is near a wall. Make sure the wall is a support wall.

Got it. This looks legit. Thank you!

Picked up the Chill Tank today. Thing is massive. Had a great purchasing experience. The tank is more scratched than guy led on, but I figure some buffing will take care of that. While I was gone wife spotted some ich on my Dorey fish, I hope she keeps on swimming...:) (keeping both eyes on this)

The driving part is what was not good. Almost died. Seriously. Place was up in the mountains, Jackson, WY to be exact and well drop off went fine but return trip turned into a mess quick.

Long story short: started raining, then raining heavy. It was 48 degrees. In a spit second it all turned to frozen hail. Very slippery. Was going about 50mph. Didn't have my music on and was not looking at my phone or any other distractions as I was focused on how and if CT was moving around in the bed of the truck. All of the sudden, I went into a big time slide, like the worst of my life. Went sideways slowly and painfully. (It was out of body, I was watching it all happen) Drifted into the oncoming lane, stayed there a while, then drifted into the shoulder, stayed there a while, coming a few feet from the roadside poles. Quite honestly was preparing for impact. Had one thought and said three words: this can't be happening and "Oh my God."

Did not hit anyone or anything. Not exaggerating it was nothing short of a miracle. Even now going back through it all in mind, I cannot understand how I was not towed home...tank smashed to pieces...

Came around the corner (short story getting longer) and two cars had just collided minutes earlier. Looked like there could have been minor injuries...weaved through the carnage (car parts, not body) (a bystander was already on scene helping) and started up the hill.

Sedan comes at me in my lane in a straight slide grinding along the guardrail. Preparing for impact again not believing my eyes. Guy pulls out of it and back into his lane. Didn't even look back to see what happened next. Put that business in 4X4 and I was gone and very shook up.

P.S. I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt because it was a nice day.

P.S.S. CT is still on the truck. It takes two and my neighbor ain't home yet! :) (beast mode)

It ain't pretty, but it's here! Let the brain gear turning begin! Exciting times!

You're looking at close to 1,900 pounds just in water. Have someone come and look at it. How old is the house ?

I did a lot of research into this when I started looking into setting up my 75 on the second level of the townhouse I used to own. Newer homes with manufactured beam flooring is designed to support something in the area of 40 lbs per square foot live load and 15 lbs per square foot dead load. Oddly, older homes can be more resilient when it comes to dead loads like an aquarium as they were often build with full dimension lumber as opposed to the manufactured stuff found in newer construction. If you know the dimensions of the tank, you can do a little math to figure out how many pounds per square foot your tank will transfer onto your floor.

At the very least, make sure your tank is positioned to cross as many individual beams as possible so the weight can be distributed across them. If you can get into the crawlspace easily, pouring a couple of extra concrete footings and supporting the beams direction under your tank would be ideal. (I tend to be paranoid about the stuff, so that's probably what I'd do with a tank that size.)

[morpheas]

That's a huge one my friend! You're going all in with this one. It needs a lot of tlc but the most important i would do is check seals and seam quality making sure this amount of water doesn't end up on your living room floor [emoji6]

I have a 220 acrylic also and love it for the WOW factor. Just be careful with scratches on the acrylic but I'm sure you know that. Even if you do get light scratches, they can be sanded out (even under water) with a very fine grade sandpaper. They make kits for that also. The one thing that's somewhat cumbersome is working in the tank. You don't mention the dimensions but if yours is like mine and it's 30" deep, it takes some getting used to...wet sleeves and armpits become the norm so just be mindful of deoderants and such. Also a good step ladder is a must. Besides the few inconveniences, I would never want to go smaller.

Here I am with the tank that almost took my life!

YEAH buddy! I got 96 long 18 deep and 30 high. Armpit soaker for sure. Thank you for that advice on buffing out scratches. Will be looking to do this in the future. Wow factor is great. Fantastic to hear that you are satisfied with that size. I believe I will be as well. Love it already! Peace!

Where did you get your stand if you don't mind me asking?

To reinforce the idea that you should put a couple floor jacks under that bad boy (jealous, by the way!). I used to have a 180 (wife said no in the new-new house so I have a nice 65 now). Anyway, I digress.

When I set up the 180 I put two floor jacks in the basement under where I was going to put it and jacked it just short of bowing the floor up. Placed the tank and filled 'er up. Everything was fine for the life of the tank. When I moved, as I drained the tank, I heard one, then the other, floor jack fall as the weight came off.

Not sure if the jacks were truly necessary but evidence that they were taking quite a bit of weight from the floor joists. Also, this was a 4-year old house.

I actually got my tank, stand and canopy from a guy selling it off Craigslist so I don't know where it came from. It's a high stand so that's why a step ladder is a must for me.
I can definitely tell when you get that bad boy all set up, it's gonna have some big time WOW factor.

Here's a bad pic but you get the idea:

Yup. Jacks going in. Let's all get together and build a house just for tanks. Anyone?

What are you doing for a sump for this system? You looking on CL for one? Don't see a lot of space on the bottom of it, you planning on going in a garage/basement?
