Go figure - Power Outage

Oh man - it's bright and sunny out side here in northern cali. So who would have thought. Sitting out with my coffee about an hour ago and come back inside to find an eary silent house. Thinkin hmmm than it clicks ah crud - powers out.

1st panic than action.lol battery bubbler in off to the store for oil for generator. U can tell I was prepared. Actually got generator last month on a trip to get a new drill for new build. Had a feeling to buy generator instead and use muscle for screws.lol paid off.

Been an hour and they say out till still 11am or noon. Some 60000 out do to transformer blowing. What a morning. At least got bubbler going and generator now has return flowing. Good thing it's nice out so temps should be fine.

Those are just way to much for way to little imo. Seems they don't last but a few hours but nice it's automatic kick in. I have an inverter as plan b off of car but like this Lil generator. Cost me $88 at harbor freight.

Feel so bad - I'm the prez of the local club here and my phone has been blowing up all morning from members with no backup plan :( wish there were more I could do

I saw that the Jebao battery back-up lasts up to 48 hours and is only like $100

+1 - always makes for an awesome club meeting event. Things everyone should know.

All good in this hood. Power went out at 8am and we got it back a Lil after noon. Thought it was nice in the house but temp got down to 73.9-74 In tank by the time the apex kicked back on - than it was directly to work For the day

Famous, glad to see everything worked out for you. For those of us who have decent size tanks ( a bunch of money invested), a generator is cheap insurance. (I guess you nano folks can find small generators too!). Bottom line, I think a generator is a manitory piece of equipement with this hobby.


A similar power outage happened to me in August 2012, were after a half hour without power I became concerned and hopped in the car to go buy a generator (at Sam's Club). So I'm returning to my house, and as I turn onto my street....bam....all the lights come back on. So the generator now sits unopen in the box out in my garage.
A month or so later (Oct. 2012), we had this little storm blow through New Jersey (and surrounding states). I was without power for over seven days. If it weren't for the generator that ran 24/7, I'd have a dead tank. We had quite a few club members who lost everything. The secondary issue we also had was that gas stations didn't have power, so you couldn't get gas. Lucky for me I have too many cars, so I simply siphoned gas for the first four days. By then a number of gas stations were open and you could find gas....waiting in line.....an hour and a half for me to get ten gallons.


So go out and buy a generator. With me, what started out as a 300 dollar investment in a Sam's club generator, that got me through Sandy, has bloomed up to about $700 total or so. That generator now has it's own house (a small shed) and a couple 10 or 12 gauge 100 foot extension cords, and a couple power strips and a number of smaller extension cords.







The likelyhood is that I'll never use this generator again. But if I need it, it's there and ready to go.

If you're real serious, go for a whole house generator that automatically kicks in.

Just FYI, if you plan to store gas make sure you rotate it out at least once a year. Twice a year to be super safe. With all the additives they put in the gas these days it will go bad after sitting for awhile.

You can add fuel stabilizers to the cans to help extend the lifespan. Stabil is a reputable brand.

Without a stabilizer, I wouldn't use it after three months.

Use aviation fuel as it has a shelf life of well over a year and needs no stabilizers...

Just to clarify, planes that run on gasoline.......I'm assuming prop jobs. I know Jet fuel is darn near diesel fuel.

I have two Trojan t-1275 120 amp hr @20 hr golf cart battery wired in series on a tunze safety supply wired to my jebao's did a test just to see one time how long it run after 5 days I just plugged the power back in seemed pretty good for back up
