I have a gold nugget x lightning maroon clown that I want to pair in the future. Was thinking of pairing it with a smaller gold nugget once this one is big enough(it's about 2 inches right now). I was thinking this would help bring out more gold color in the offspring while still hopefully retaining the pattern at least for some of the offspring. What do you guys think? Is there something else that would be better to pair this fish with?
Here's a picture of the fish that the vendor I bought it from took:

I have a pair of these that I bought at the same time. Maroons can get nasty, I had a couple of months where I thought the smaller one was going to be killed. It was extremely ugly, these are housed in a 144 and the smaller one still had a hard time getting away and hiding. The female would litterally jet to the other side of the tank and pound the other. It took some some time but they FINALLY lightened up and they paired up. I feel I got extremely lucky and so did the other maroon. Not saying you can't pair it up but I would definitely use an acclimation box or partition your tank if possible, be aware you might not be so lucky and have a plan. Good luck if you try to pair it up and let me know how it works out. Keeping my fingers crossed for ya!

Yep, I've read up on the pairing process and already own an acclimation box. Just waiting until the one I have grows another inch or 2 to pair it. In the meantime, trying to decide what would be the best kind of maroon to pair it with.

Any clownfish breeders out there with thoughts on a gold nugget and gold x lightning pairing? keeping in mind mendel's law, I would think 50% of the babies would look like gold nuggets and I probably wouldnt want to sell those to keep the gold nugget gene pool pure but thoughts? What I'm trying to go for through breeding is a lightning pattern but gold instead of the white.

Bumping - also, How big should I wait for the maroon to be before obtaining a small partner maroon for it?
