Could anyone identity what this might be around my puffers mouth. It was eating and its mouth was fine yesteday. I noticed it this morning when it was eating. Its in a 340 gallon fowlr system

It eats a veriety of clam stripes, silversides, clams on half shell and crab cluster. I usually soak in selcon twice a week

Looks like mechanical injury, even glass surfing damage
Should heal on its own but to avoid infection, I would consider treating with ruby rally pro or in quarantine- seachem kanaplex

Wow - second case like this in two days!

How long have you had the puffer?
Any idea if it could have injured its mouth some way?
The fish is still feeding o.k. though?

I have had it for 1 month now. Its in a fowlr system so only thing i can think of is if it ran into a rock at night. Yesterday it was fine. It ate this morning. I will see if it eats tomorrow morning before I leave for work. You said second case, did the other case also happen on an Arothron puffer?

Yes - it was a newer fish, and it died. Here is the thread:

Sorry to hear.

The two cases seemed similar. I've dealt with many of these puffers over the years, and I don't recall seeing mouth damage/infections like this.

I never had issues keeping puffers. Something else I noticed with this infection was his right eye started to sink in.
