Nothing worse than wakening up doing your morning head count and find someone missing, we all experience this for sure but for the life of me , Ive lost two guys in the past three weeks and once there gone there gone i mean outside of going in and moving things around when they disappear there never seen again. Am i alone in this or is this the way it is my tank is about 9 years old and i just lost my Blue Damsel whos been here since the Beginning really sucks ... to lose your 1st in habitant. this is my tank . the left side is bubble tip City I started with two small ones about 5 years ago and now they own the entire left side I keep them from moving over to the left.

im very sorry to hear about the dissapearances, especially your blue damsel its always tough losing a fish, especially ones that we get to know and love over time but im sure you gave it a better life then it might of had in many other situations/tanks.

Thanks for your comment , appreciate it ,

I’d hazard a guess that 9.5 years is probably the life expectancy for a damsel? Don’t beat yourself up over it, great looking tank.
Thanks Daniel, at this point the tank takes care of its self, I just do bi weekly water changes and very little additives Ive learned what i can and can't keep .. and try keep it simple...

Love your tank. Exactly the kind of coral mix I have as well. Low stress easy anemones, and softies. Probably 50% of my fish losses are disappearances as well especially if they are very small fish that are mostly consumed over night by the cleaners. Now that I have a peninsula tank that i can see through the rockwork i will probably find them before the cleaners can completely devour them. Recently part of my fish purchase decisions is based on longevity of the species. I think the only short lifespan fish i have in my tank and will keep stocking regardless are helichores wrasse varieties, and meiacanthus blennies.

Thanks Joseph, after many failed attempts at torches, zoas and more exotic corals and fish , i learned I can throw my money away on other things , I like tangs and I try to get them to like each other, I had 3 Yellows in the Tank but they slowly moved on over time I think due to age and water quality, I just can't get my water clean enough , not that i haven't tried I had a service company taking care of the tank but for what i was paying them i can do it myslef I did not see any improvement in my water, i just don't have the time to really get after it . maybe when im fully retired I can spend time dialing it in but for now I do bi weekly water changes usually about 45gal and now I'm using NYOS salt see if that helps or ill go back to Tropic Marin,..tomorrow back to the LFS to get some more cleanup crews they disapear too :-) lets see ya tank and best of luck with it,,

45 gallons is a big water change. Thats exactly how much i change, but mine are only once a month. I do mine the easy way, i just fill up 9 5 gallon buckets of water from longboat key pass on an incoming tide, put them in the bed of my truck and bring them home. I only use my RODI for ATO make up water. I never buy salt. New tank just went up. I have phone camera filter on the way because without one my photos are all blue.
