ive had this piece of goni now for going on a couple months and and first i placed it and its stocks werent coming out to to much so ive been trying to move it around to see if itll get better extension? i believe thats the word im trying to use so ive moved and i got it on the sand bed nxt to my other lps (with plenty of room so no one gets attacked) and its been getting great extension mostly within the past couple weeks but now theres a hole in it and the sides are also receding alittle bit and the hole has gotten bigger in size so now my question is help! where do i place it? should i also try to dip it? what do i do?

seperate none goni related topic is i also have a rainbow monti that i feel isnt doing so well either and i was wondering where i should place that at?

Goni's aren't the easiest thing to keep.... I've lost a few myself that did very well for 6 months or more. Let's get some more eyes on this problem and see what we can do... [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG]

Try mod to lower mod flow and lighting and feed it, try some acropower or spongpower or goniopower. It's been my experience that Goniopora need more nutrients than the current tank afford.

I've moved it more to the left in my tank from in the center still on the sand bed flow is alittle less there also I feed everything three days a week I start with reef energy from Red Sea and then I feed phyto and oyster feast and also I feed reef roids twice a week

It might be to much light for yours rite now try moving it into a area with less light cause the polys seem to be open when the lights are off? Or just ramping up I mean what do you have to lose rite

I've been going through the same thing. I ended up finding the goni partially opens when it's on the frag rack mid way up. Hopefully you find a sweet spot.

I just joined reef2reef to answer your post (lol) you need to pick a spot and try not to move it. Gonis hate being moved about so much. Most prefer medium flow and medium to high light. First check kh and calc and mag. If any of those are too low it will cause the goni to deteriorate quite quickly. If your parameters are all in check then next is make sure you have some carbon running to pull toxins from the water. Try feeding reef roids and amino acids. Target feed once every second day if you can and leave the pumps off for 20 -30 minutes so the food can sit and be absorbed. If you dont see improvement then it is possible something may be eating it. In that case you may want to dip it make sure there are no nasties living in its skeleton.

Nice man well I'd like to say welcome to r2r! And since starting this thread and me moving it to the left alittle but I've had great poly extension it just worries me that there's still the hole on it I will be probably be dipping it soon just to make sure that there isn't a bug in it or anything

I've moved it alittle more to one side it seems to be doing good but the hole doesn't seem to be getting smaller maybe it's a pest and I should dip it?

Hi I posted this on another thread but this Goniopora has been so happy until I came home today and the left side has a different color and different look. Stalks are usually fully extended most of the time, now right is shriveled left looks weird.

Should this concern me?

How long has it been in your tank? I'd try moving it maybe something got underneath it and is bugging it there's so many factors and never touch Goni with your bare hand the oils will kill it I believe

This is the first I have read that one's oil from their skin will kill these guys. Darn.
